As headquarters for systemwide operations of the University of California, UCOP was facing increasing pressure to reduce operating costs while keeping pace with contemporary workspace planning and practices. Gensler undertook a study to discover how cost savings could be achieved through real estate, understand how space could enhance work processes at UCOP and, above all, highlight the opportunities for UCOP to lead by its example. Five goals were developed that outlined primary project objectives and aspirations, from cost savings to environmental responsibility, establishing a framework for evaluating future workplace and real estate options.
