The Clift Royal Sonesta Hotel
San Francisco, California
The renovation of the historic Clift Hotel fuses the craftsmanship of its 1915 construction with modern-day San Francisco sophistication. The hotel’s rich history and architectural elements found in the original drawings provided the framework for a design concept inspired by the evolution of an icon. The facade was restored and the building was outfitted with new electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems to meet modern standards and codes. The phased renovation includes guest rooms, corridors, and public spaces like the lobby, restaurant and bar, meeting and event venues, and co-working areas. The restoration blends modern classical with elements of Art Deco, resulting in a destination that celebrates the past and embraces the future. The parallelism between past and present is reinforced through local artisanal elements that can be found throughout the property, from carpet weaving to tilework.
