San Diego International Airport, Federal Inspection Services Facility

San Diego, California

Faced with a growing number of flights, the San Diego International Airport needed a new international arrival hall and Federal Inspection Services Facility (FIS). The new LEED Gold certified FIS was designed “inside out” from the perspective of the passenger to be intuitive and calming. Natural light and views to San Diego’s impressive skylines greet visitors from the moment they step off the plane. A “bags first” system design allows passengers to pick up their checked luggage before proceeding to a single customs checkpoint equipped with the latest advances and biometric screening from U.S. Customs and Border Protection. The new facility has sped up and significantly improved the screening process for international passengers allowing most to get through customs in less than 20 minutes.
