Nikko Style Nagoya

Aichi, Japan

Gensler oversaw the interior and brand design of Nikko Style Nagoya, the first lifestyle hotel brand by Okura Nikko Hotels. As the demands and preferences of the guests become diverse, the design concept, Discover Style, intends to spark curiosity for guests to discover a lifestyle that suits them during their stay.

The ceiling features the Shachihoko, a symbol of Nagoya castle, projected with ethereal light that changes throughout the day, as it greets guests in the lobby. Gensler also designed the logo of the hotel restaurant, Style Kitchen. The large windows and greenery of the restaurant create an open and comfortable atmosphere.

The hotel is embellished with local craftsmanship details, such as Arimatsu-shibori carpets and ornaments with traditional Nagoya tie-dye, Seto pottery room plates, and Shachihoko-inspired mirrors. The design creates a unique appeal for Nagoya by merging traditional culture and modern design.
