Jackie Robinson Museum
New York, New York
Located in a landmarked building in Lower Manhattan, the Jackie Robinson Museum presents the life of the first African American inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in a dynamic setting, designed by Gensler, to educate, inspire, and challenge visitors of all ages. The space explores and celebrates Robinson’s athletic achievements, civil rights leadership, and deep commitment to social justice through changing and permanent exhibits that combine rare artifacts, baseball memorabilia, didactic information, and digital touchpoints.
An immersive, media-based museum experience allows visitors to better understand the racism and prejudice Robinson encountered beyond the baseball field, as well as stories of his lasting influence on sports, politics, and entertainment today. Leveraging Gensler’s expertise in museum and digital experience design, the new museum realizes the Jackie Robinson Foundation’s goal to preserve the legacy of one of the most important Americans of the 20th century and encourages others to act by creating an impactful experience for visitors as well as the surrounding community.
