Harrods Technology Department
London, United Kingdom
In designing the Technology Department at Harrods, Gensler saw a unique opportunity to create a warm and exclusive atmosphere reminiscent of the luxury department store’s heritage while also incorporating sleek modern elements. The space balances a contemporary and intimate finish that blurs the boundaries between fashion and technology for a unique retail experience.
The re-fitted area of Harrods’ fifth floor was originally built as mansion flats during the Edwardian era. The surviving elements of the Edwardian floorplan have been retained, with alterations to improve customer circulation and experience whilst preserving the historic building fabric. The Gensler London team incorporated and repurposed the traditional fashion catwalk into the retail design to showcase the latest offerings from premiere tech brands and to physically connect the five elegantly designed rooms that encompass part of Harrods’ Technology Department.
