CCCC Riverside Plaza
Shanghai, China
Located at the heart of the Yangpu Waterfront, the CCCC Riverside Plaza is a future work-learn-play-culture destination and a new landmark in the city. Embracing the area’s nature, history, and cultural heritage, the project will serve as a bridge between the past and future.
Gensler won an international design competition to create a vibrant and flexible environment linking people and the built environment, while paying homage to the history of Yangpu Waterfront. The design is inspired by the industrial riverside architecture, culture, and philosophy, including the original Shanghai Waterworks and shipyards.
Gensler’s design introduces a vertical ecological system with passive natural ventilation, vertical green gardens, ecological atriums, and scattered courtyards bringing shade, landscape, and sustainability to the mix. Indoor and outdoor courtyards create shared spaces for people to interact. An optimized walkability strategy utilizes street grids and small-scale building connectivity. Street-level connections boost the retail value with pedestrian-friendly open space connecting to the riverside communities.
