Belk Bowl Innovation Lab

Cornelius, North Carolina

Gensler worked with Belk to create an innovation lab, or Modern Cybrary, at Cornelius Elementary School. Through the Belk Bowl, a collegiate football game, Belk initiated an Innovation Lab Contest for local schools to remodel their media centers into state-of-the-art innovation labs. Gensler helped guide the design process of this new maker space, which focuses on connection to technology and collaboration between students and creative outlets. Four zones were created: Make, Interact, Learn and Assemble. They allow for flexible, active learning environments for the entire media center through the use of new technology, furniture and finishes.
